Hello loves,
Im back with another update. Im calling this the poopy week because monday started out with a bigg ole poop. Not mine but a kid named Chris’. He came over to play with BiBi for a bit and then you know, me not knowing dutch, im just following them around and watching them play. They enventually end up in the bathroom. They take turns in the bathroom and so on but when Chris goes hes talking and BiBi responds so she walks in and i see that he needs some help wiping his butt. The problem was that he had already tried. The outcome… he had poop on his hands, the floor, and on the shower window… And yes, it did smell like a swege diaper and i did have to clean it up. I felt so gross and felt like i was being judged by the KIDS. i have never felt inferior towards children but i can now say i do.
Tuesday was a good day, i got to go write and be by myself all day. I look forward for tuesdays just because i get to truley be on my own. I walked a lot and just picked which stores i went into. I started this day with my dutch class and i love it, the girls in there are really refreshing! I then got some things for my room… Which i fricken love! (pictures on my last post).
Im really proud of myself, even though i feel so uncomfortable, ive been going to pubs and bars alone. I get one or two drinks and its rewarding but i alwas feel like someone is staring at me, judging me. I know literally no one is but still its one of those new experiences and feelings ive never had before. On friday i sort of got hit on so, thats a plus!!!! Haha, a guy just sat down by me and had a conversation at the bar. Nothing that exciting, its small talk that goes no where… i need questions to ask people if that happens again or how to start a conversation off! Let me know in the comments if you have any fun questions or ideas on conversation topics (that isnt small talk i.e. “where are youfrom” “how long have you been here”) !!!
So my weekend was kinda amazeballs. I went on the Heineken Experience and that was reall cool and it was a really pretty building:
Like what the heckers. Afterwords I met up with an AuPair from Ukraine. She reached out to me because she lived in Boston for two years and liked Americans! It was really nice being able to talk to someone at the bars lol.
Sunday was my favorite day, oh my goodness. I went on two guided tours. The first part of the day i went to Zaanse Schans, Voldendam, and Marken. Zaanse Schans is the famous windmill village and it was excellent. It was so pretty to appriciate a little dutch village. We toured one of the windmills and that one was still working and makes peanut oil. The worker there explained how and why they use this process. They still use this type for more of an upkeep on the windmill because it doesnt make a lot of oil in a short period of time.
Next we went to Volendam and I went into a cheese factory. WE GOT TO TRY CHEESE. It was superb, they has a pesto cheese and it was delicious! We ate on our own during this part and i just got fries with mayo (its amazing and you need to try it). Fries are everywhere and this is going to be a problem since they are my favorite thing on earth. This town was small but our last stop was Marken. We took a ferry from Volendam to get there. Marken was so so small. It was beautiful like nothing else. I was in awe the whole time walking through the town. The houses were tiny and almost all of them were by water. It was here that i went to a clog maker. I was so surprised how they made clogs by machine. The guy literally started out with a wooden log and put it in a machine that had a blade whirling around the log, cutting out the shape. Then, you put it on another machine and you rotate a blade inside the shoe to create the place you would put your foot. After this process it takes two weeks for the clog to dry and then, it could be worn. Also the reason someone would wea this show is for water purposes, the wood doesnt absorb water and its easy to clean off dirt. Mostly for people working on a farm or on land. The second part of the day i went to Keukenhof which is an “amusement” park full of flowers. This years theme is “Flower Power” and is based on the 60’s and 70’s. It was so pretty and took about three hours to walk around the park. There were awesome flower shows that displayed all sorts of new inspirations for houses or gardens. It gave off a really fresh feeling and the whole place smelled like pretty flowers. So that was my week, It was pretty great in all. I just cant wait for when ill have friends that i can easily call up and hang out with. I think im going to research some college events, like a free class or smething. I just want to meet people that are abroad as well. I feel like that would be easier than trying to find a dutch friend.xoxo m
